The cells inside the vaginal wall contain sugar, which are released during normal cell shedding. This sugar is broken down into lactic acid by the lactic acid bacteria in the vagina.
A healthy vagina flora is acidic with a pH level of 3.8 to 4.4 which can suppresses the growth of harmful germs, which helps to prevent an imbalance of the vaginal microecology.

The acidic vaginal environment can be disrupted by various external factors, causing the pH to rise above 4.5.
